Global Data Quantum Launches IBM Qiskit Function Applying Quantum Computing to Investment Portfolio Optimization

Without requiring expert knowledge in quantum computing, Quantum Portfolio Optimizer enables the use of quantum computing for dynamic portfolio optimization.

The tech firm Global Data Quantum has taken a key step in the evolution of finance with the launch of Quantum Portfolio Optimizer, an IBM Qiskit Function that uses quantum computing to optimize investment portfolios. The solution -for portfolio managers, analysts, and individual investors alike- aims to enhance investment performance while minimizing risks and transaction costs.

Why is this tool so special?

Powered by IBM’s quantum computers, and available in the IBM Qiskit Functions Catalog, Quantum Portfolio Optimizer introduces a new solution in portfolio optimization, opening new possibilities for managers, analysts, and individual investors.

This launch is the result of the growing strength of regional quantum ecosystems. A special acknowledgment goes to the quantum ecosystem of Bizkaia for its valuable support through the initiative promoted by the Government of Bizkaia, BIQAIN (Bizkaia Quantum Advanced Industries), during the initial industrial research phase of this project.

Why Quantum Computing?

While traditional methods face significant limitations as the number of assets or constraints increases—becoming progressively slower and less efficient—quantum computing offers the potential to process multiple variables in parallel. This opens the door to much faster and more effective solutions for highly complex problems.

How does it work?

The Quantum Portfolio Optimizer follows a four-stage operational framework.

First, it receives as input the prices of financial assets along with the investment conditions defined by the user.

It then translates this information into a problem formulated for quantum resolution.

Next, a VQE (Variational Quantum Eigensolver) algorithm is applied. The VQE is specifically designed to identify the most efficient investment combinations within the possible solution space.

Finally, the system performs a post-processing adjustment to mitigate the noise characteristic of current quantum devices, thereby generating an optimized, robust, and viable recommendation.

What is Quantum Portfolio Optimizer for?
